在台灣出生或者曾經持有台灣護照，且年齡介於18至40歲之間的男性，必須注意的是他們可能仍有在台服兵役的義務，這樣的義務並不會因為因他們是美國公民及持美國護照入境台灣而消失。
但若能証明自己是海外中國人且在滿15歲之前已離開台灣且每次訪台的時間及加總日數都沒有超過規定的時數，那就有機會不受限於以上的兵役義務。
需注意的是在36歲之前的以上男性，有可能無法行使放棄台灣護照或台灣籍的權利。
