2011 年的綠卡抽籤在今年 2009 的十月二日即將開姶，至十一月三十日結束，最近這幾年來，亞州地區包括台灣、香港、澳門、日本都有資格參與綠卡抽籤.

每年大約有55，000的綠卡抽籤名額給全世界有資格的國家來分配，並且是有區域性的分配，區域有分為: 非洲、亞洲、歐洲、北美、南美等.

過去五年來，從某些國家或地區來美國拿到綠卡的人數若超過一定的數目，則這些國家或地區的人民就不能參加綠卡抽籤，包括南韓、中國大陸等.

理由是綠卡抽籤是為了達到美國民族大融爐的精神，希望可以吸取各個不同國家文化的精隨，並且能達到一個種族平衡.

除此之外，參加的人必須: 

1)      至少有高中畢業或同等的學歷 

OR 

2)      在過去五年來，至少有2 年的工作經驗，並且這個工作也需符合相關要求
