想在美國永久居住，就是要有美國國籍或美國綠卡。但擁有綠卡並不等於就是具有美國國籍.
綠卡是美國政府允許你可以在美生活工作，這樣的身份，充其量只是証明了你並不是非法居留美國。在美國政府眼中，你卻還是個客人，你所能享受的權利，遙遙不及一個美國人。 意思就是說，綠卡不是美國人。因為不是美國人，只是個好客人，你既不能投票選總統，也有機會面臨被趕出去的命運。
美國籍就是你是一個美國公民，也就是所謂的美國人。當上了美國人，美國政府再也趕不走你，只有你自己決定走不走。
要想成為美國人，必需在美國連續居住一段時間 (三年或五年的區間)，接著，提出入籍申請，並經過面試、口試及筆試，通過後，再公開宣誓的一個過程，才成為一個美國人。此時，才有資格申請美國護照。之前擁有綠卡時，入境美國，必須出示你的原國護照及綠卡 ( 因為，你還是外國人，不是美國人 )。但成為美國人後，只需出示你的美國護照，就可以進入美國。

你好我想請問,我已經有綠卡,但是我這一次出境美國六個月半才回來,會有什麼影響嗎?假如我每半年入境美國一次,待的時間都一個禮拜至一個月,近來海關時會有什麼問題嗎?在台灣有收入,但在美國沒有,是否需要報境外收入的費用

Once you are a green card holder, you're required to file a US tax return and report your world wide income, including Taiwan's. You may qualify for certain foreign income exclusions or credits. Filing tax returns is additional evidence that you are maintaining a permanent residence in the US.
